It sounds excellent when you talk about online internships. But have you thought about how to maintain productivity in your remote internships? Do not worry; I have got your back with a few mantras to keep you become productive.
Lets take a look:
1. Build a routine.
A routine will help you establish the structure you have in the office. You might think you don’t require it, but a routine can get you back on track if you feel unproductive in this new work environment. You need to prove your worth to your mentor for an online internship program to become a full-time employee.
Get dressed while you can skip the suit if you’d like, still get dressed for the day. Get out of your pajamas and get ready as if you were headed out to run errands. You never know when you’ll have to jump on a last-minute video conference with your mentors
2. Create a dedicated space.
Everyone’s space will look different. Whatever you have, make it work for you with a little preparation. Try to set up your desk or workspace at home similar to what you have at work. As a result, your muscle memory will still be hard at work, and you might find yourself annoyed every time you grab the phone but get your stapler instead. In doing so you will be able to concentrate your work. Ensure your area has a door that can close and block out distractions (like noise and pets). Make your unpaid or paid internship worth it.
3. Prioritize your wellbeing.
When you’re no longer in the office environment, the things you used to do), may no longer be a part of your natural routine. So, prioritize things that will keep your health in check. It’s easy to lose track when doing an online internship program. Therefore, keep it simple by always keeping a large cup of water with you. You can even set a goal of finishing the first glass by 10 am, the second by noon, and so on.
Sometimes take a walk or move around! It’ll help you focus on the work and improve your health. Don’t forget about lunch.
4. Maintain boundaries.
Adjusting to a work-from-home internship with stipend can challenge your normal productivity. Why? Because you might be surrounded by family members, pets, friendly neighbors, and a slew of other interruptions. It’s essential to discuss with your family about what you can and can’t accommodate while working, and it may help to talk with your manager, too. If you’re working from home for reasons outside your control, let your manager know your home situation so they understand your reality.
5. Know when to unplug.
When you don’t have the daily interruptions you’re used to at office; sometimes you might lose track of time and your sense of work-life balance. Therefore, schedule a specific start time, regular breaks, and a time to pack it up. Unless it’s an emergency, resist the temptation to log back on when you are alone.
